Our Story

The Lettuce Inn is a small Food store in the suburb of Hurstbridge, it has been in the Dwyer family for over 40 years but in this time has had Three different owners, firstly my Parents, Ron & Gwen Dwyer who ran the store successfully for the bulk of the time, they faced many challenges as all businesses do, the introduction of GST and we all remember the Banana shortage but probably their biggest challenge was staying afloat after the disastrous Black Saturday Fires which had a huge impact on their business. In around 2010 my brother Craig Dwyer and his wife Christine purchased the business and ran the business with their family, then in November of 2012 I purchased the business and at the time was thinking of a 5 year plan, run the business in that period and then maybe move on and do something else, well, I'm still there my name is Shaun Dwyer and I am still very much enjoying running the Lettuce Inn, we are so lucky to be situated in the small Village of Hurstbridge with our outer rural areas which I think is quite unique with a strong sense of community and People who genuinely look out for each other. Currently the Lettuce Inn employs Six casual staff who are all local and mostly students and I have to say amazing young people who are definitely the back bone of the business. You don't have to go far to bump in to someone who has worked at the Lettuce Inn over the years, ages ranging from 16 years to well let's say around the 80 mark. Over the years the store has evolved from a straight Fruit & Vegetable shop to a Food Store and over these Forty something years our family has always traveled to the Market to hand select the produce we bring back to the store. Our little business would not be there today without the great support we receive from our locals and the incredible staff we have had over the years and I intend to keep this little bit of local History going.
Kindest Regards,
Shaun Dwyer.
